Last Sunday’s dreary weather didn’t stop the cutest four-legged partiers from joining the fun at Dog Day. The SPCA, an organization dedicated to the elimination of animal suffering, has held this “day for the dogs” for the last 33 years. This year, the event was held at City Park from 11am – 3pm.

The event kicked off with the pups taking a 1 mile strut around the Big Lake! Of course, there were also dog contests as part of the festivities crowing winners for best trick, best dressed and best look alike. Aside from the scheduled events, the grassy grounds were filled with vendors from local “dog friendly” businesses, day cares, vets and training organizations. Among the businesses was Muddy Mutts, a puppy palace located in Lakeview that facilitates owners coming in to bath their dogs providing tubs for the pups, shampoo, hair dryers – everything you would need to pamper your pet while scrubbing them clean!

Aside from the vendors for the pups, local restaurants were on hand with yummy food and some adult beverages such as the margaritas from the Velvet Cactus! To top it all off, there was a photo booth by Boogie Booth, face painting and an amazing band, Partly Cloudy, played making the day perfect for the pups and their people!

If you haven’t yet experienced this Dog Day, pay attention at this time next year. It’s a super fun day for all ages and all breeds. Adoptable dogs are also in attendance and rescue groups and shelters from all over New Orleans are present as well.   So if you are in the market for a new best friend, this might just be the event that will save your life by saving the life of a fur baby. Come out and support a great organization and get some puppy kisses from the kissing booth!

Dress of the week – Last week of March

This week’s “Dress of the Week” is a Krikor Jabotian dress perfect for a rehearsal dinner or a second wedding dress!  Recently, I am finding a lot of my brides changing out of their wedding dresses into a second option, such as this one.  Sometimes the change is because they want to second line at the end of the night and they do not want to have their wedding dress dragging along the streets of the French Quarter.  But sometimes a girl just needs a second dress and with an option like this one, who can blame her?!

Dress of the Week – Third week of March

The recent trend in bridesmaids’ dresses is definitely that each girl get to pick her own dress.  The last 6 brides I’ve worked with have given their bridesmaids a color palette to work from, and set them free to pick whatever dress they feel will work for them.  Majority of the palettes are ranges of gold to include beige, rose gold, bronze, etc.  Of the last 6 bridal parties that have done this, 5 chose gold palates and 3 had a bridesmaid that chose this exact dress.  And that is why this Adrianna Papell dress is my pick for “Dress Of The Week!”  It’s definitely flattering to most body types as none of the girls that I saw wearing it had similar heights or shapes and they all looked stunning.  This dress photographs very well and it has a “bridesmaid-dress” quality about it without being a dress that no one will wear again.  I love it!!!

Dress of the week – Second week of March

This Zuhair Murad dress is my pick for this week’s “Dress of the Week” and I am loving the idea of the entire collection.  This dress in particular has a gorgeous neck line and full skirt at first glance.  But the fact that the skirt can come off, maybe after the ceremony, gives the bride a completely different look for the reception.  The straight lines of this dress and the lace detail quickly become the focal point once the skirt is gone!  Beautiful!!

Dress of the week – First week of March

I have found my new obsession – Paolo Sebastian – and this dress from the 2012 collection is my pick for “Dress of the week!”  I am sure the Proper Planner will be featuring more from this designer, but this particular dress was what originally caught my eye.  I love the feminine nature of this dress and the high slit of the skirt.  It’s perfect for the fashion runway, but can definitely translate fabulously for your walk down the wedding runway!
